a trip down the lane

a trip down the lane.. fashion week, just another day…

Here we are again.  Back for another day of Fashion Week at Lincoln Center in NYC.  A lot more pics and even a celeb or two in the mix.  And yes, for those that are interested Nigel Barker is INSANELY GORGEOUS in person.

So without further word clutter.. here you go.  pppssstttt… also look out for the Anime (Harajuku) kids in the middle there.  They picked a perfect place to have a meetup.

a trip down the lane…fashion week strikes again

Lincoln Center is once again in the midst of that twice annual gathering of the fashion-makers.  The have’s, the have-nots, the wants and the scraps all come together in a splash and dazzle display of color, shape and sometimes style.  Yesterday, day two, proved to be a perfect example.  The big push seems to be accessories, ear cuffs and bags.  Even men were carrying clutches.

So, no more words, just lots and lots of pictures.

So, next time then…

a trip down the lane – in stripes

It has been a while since an edition was added to the “trip down the lane” series.  I am always collecting shots as I go along and I actually have quite a backlog.  It might not be as long next time.

The theme is an obvious one… stripes,  but maybe there is a surprise here and there.  Anyway, here we go:

And finally,  why not PLAID!

So,  next time then…

a trip down the lane – in B&W

And here we go again, time for another trip down the lane.  This time we are avoiding the color and heading straight into the black and white.

We will begin on the Upper Eastside.  I rarely venture into the neighborhood.  The rarified air is thick and frankly the people are generally pretty boring to shoot.   This is the part of NY where black really is the majority color and everyone is practically perfect at all times.  Generations and generations of culture and money have created a certain look,  you know it when you see it.  Suffice it to say my culture, upbringing and all the hairspray, make-up and designer duds in the world will never allow me access.. just using the word duds in a sentence is proof.

Image

Image

Next we head to midtown on this tour without color

Image

Image

And of course Union Square never disappoints always one of my favorite places in the city mainly because everyone walks through at some point on the way to somewhere else…

Image

Image

Image

And then on to the outer boroughs..

Image

Image

Image

Today I leave you with the perfect combination of culture and style, the dream look and in my opinion a perfect example of NY Chic.

Image

Still in New Mexico for a week or so who knows what adventure lies ahead.

a trip down the lane … just to the left of center

Another in the trip down the lane series.  This edition is dedicated to those who march to their own beat, whether it be for a job or just personal style.  And of course,  here we go with the “you never know what you are going to see in nyc” mantra once again.. I did warn you about that one though.

Image

Image

Style is very subjective.  It can be about function or in other cases about living in a world closer to the innocence of childhood.

Image

Image

And then there are those times when you really don’t want to know the answer to why because it might spoil the stories you create in your own imagination.  I had so many stories running through my mind about why anyone would find themselves in the middle of Union Square in a cow costume.  The reality was much more mundane than all the adventures of Super Cow the Avenger I had begun to piece together.  He is hoping his company CaterCow takes off and is willing to do about anything to get people’s attention. Union Square, the perfect place to suit up and moo!

Image

Naked Cowboy you say?  Lately Times Square is over run with costume characters and others begging for money and their micro second of fame.  Although when you think about it,  Mr. Indian Chief here is probably in a whole lot of phones and family albums all over the world.

Image

Image

Today I leave you with the Jester.  Riding to parts unknown on the 6 train.  I think I will stick with my own stories on this one,  I don’t want to know the actuality.

a trip down the lane… on color

Another in the ongoing a trip down the lane series.

When people travel to New York often they ask what they should bring along to wear.  The standard answer is whatever you want as long as it is black.  Most would think the city is a sea of black and grey and while that is true in some parts of town it is certainly not the uniform of choice.   So this edition of a trip down the lane is dedicated to the pops of color.

So while NYers do like their black the city is not without color.  Beautiful bright pops of color.

a trip down the lane… in pairs

One of my earlier posts was a trip down the lane. Captures of individuals going about their business in their own unique ways.   I have decided it to make it a regular series as I am always collecting random shots of the people who catch my attention along the way.

Today a trip down the lane is dedicated to those that travel in couples and pairs.   At times their style combines to make a single statement and at others it is much more of a clash of wills.  I always wonder,  do personal styles have to somehow mesh in order to form a lasting relationship?

Image

Image

Gotta love those happy feet!

Image

I stalked this Tiger.  I caught just a glimpse through the grassy legs of the crowd. I sped ahead, angling and jostling for position at a corner where I could get a clear shot.  Imagine my shock and sheer awe at the realization it was a male of the species!  Urban hunting and take-down at its finest.

Image

Loyalty and dedication to friendship should be admired and even celebrated!

Image

How long has their style been similar?  How long have they walked in each other’s shoes as a couple?  So many questions, always so many questions.  I think that is one of the things that keeps me going back out on the street.  Keeps me walking mile after mile, seeking out the new, different and interesting,  even if it ends up being the everyday, comfortable and slightly worn.

Image

Where will they be in twenty years?  Will they still be color coordinating their lives as a couple?  Will they even still be a couple?  Or will her love of cats manifest as the caricature we all know so well,  that of the lonely elderly woman surrounded by her feline army.  An army ready to do war with the outside world and the heartbreaks of the past.

Image

So for today I will leave you here, and with another question.

What’s to do with two – when two become three?

a trip down the lane…

Image

A walk in NY can mean many things, and a theme seems to be emerging.  How many times can you say,  “you never know what you are going to see,” and get away with it? You will have to let me know.. because I have a feeling it is going to come up here often.

Image

Image

Style is subjective… and no where is that more evident than the streets of NY.
